Portrait Painting is a 7-week course designed to equip participants with some of the techniques, practices, formal ideas, and conceptual concerns of portrait painting. Using acrylic paint, the course will strive to give participants the skills, ideas, and confidence to make portrait painting a serious, enjoyable, and thoughtful practice of self-expression. Weekly sessions will be introduced with a quick slideshow presentation and discussion about many of the themes, ideas, and strategies that inform art history and contemporary portraiture. This course will explore many of the techniques and concepts that inform painting, portraits, and self-portraits. The course will explore many themes from art history and contemporary painting practices, in order to develop our own practices of self-expression and visual discovery.
MATERIAL COST: $50.00 instructor will email the material list prior to the course, as well as discuss the list in the first class.
Instructor - Jared Peters
Jared Peters is a contemporary artist engaged with themes of painting, history, power, and identity. He was a semifinalist in the 2011 RBC Painting Competition, and his work can be found in collections across Canada and internationally. He received a BA in History from the University of New Brunswick, a BFA from NSCAD University, and an MFA in Visual Arts from the University of Western Ontario. Jared currently lives and works in New Brunswick, Canada.

Upon cancellation of the workshops due to low enrolment or extenuating circumstance a refund will be granted, Eventbrite will retain processing fees.
