July 5, 6, 7 and July 24 from 9 am - 4 pm

Always wanted to try sculpting but not sure where to start? Well, now is your chance to explore the engaging world of clay through the fun aspect of animal sculpture!

This intensive four-day course takes you through the entire process of building a sculpture on an armature out of water-based clay. From setting up the armature, to methods of observation, students will receive one-on-one individual critiques as they work on their own unique projects.

After the clay has had a chance to dry, the group will reconvene to learn to remove the armature and hollow out the piece to prepare it for firing. (Saturday, July 24)

Materials: Half a box of clay approx. $30 purchased from the NBCCD College store.

The Instructor: As a visual artist and art instructor in New Brunswick, Canada, Melissa studied traditional methods of drawing and sculpting at The Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. After her graduation, she remained at the Academy for three years as a principle instructor of drawing, before moving back to Canada.

In her work, she strives to capture and express the beauty and subtlety that exists in nature, by focusing on recreating an accuracy of the feeling through extended observation of a subject. Choosing the medium that best suits the purpose, she works with a variety of materials for both drawing and sculpture, including charcoal, pencil, ink and oil, and water-based clays.
